It's 6 PM. That dreaded question hits: 'What's for dinner?'
Sound familiar?
- "I should plan better for dinner" (but who has the time?)
- "What's for dinner tonight?" (here we go again)
- "Should I grab takeout again?" (cue the guilt)
Imagine if...
- You had a simple meal plan that actually works
- You knew exactly what's for dinner tonight
- You felt good about the healthy meals you're cooking
My Dinner Struggle
Here's What Changed Everything
You'd think owning a farm with freezers full of delicious, homegrown grass-fed beef would make dinner decisions easier. But even I struggled.
After a long day of making decisions for my other businesses, I'd stand in front of my freezer feeling overwhelmed, defeated, and guilty - not knowing what to cook.
Living out here, there's no takeout delivery, no food trucks brave my long driveway, and pickup is 20 minutes away.
I had to figure out how to make cooking at home easier.
So I did...
When I really looked at it, I could see exactly what was going wrong:
- I was so drained from all the decisions I'd made that day, my brain couldn't handle figuring out one more thing
- My freezer was full of frozen beef, but without a plan, nothing was thawed when I needed it
- Every day felt like starting over because I didn't have a system
Then it hit me - keep it simple:
Create an easy rhythm with the same curated mix every month. Ground beef Tuesdays, steak Thursdays, slow cooker Sundays. Pull the meat for the next meal to thaw while cooking tonight's dinner.
Just like that - no more staring at my freezer wondering "what's for dinner?"
This is the Beef Share CSA.

from 57 reviewsmeaty rich and delicious... wonderful turkey eggs; they taste great like all of Shelly's other meats and eggs... my personal favorite though is these Turkey Eggs
This is the only beef I buy these days! I did not eat beef for years, until I discovered Oldtime Farm! I appreciate the way the way the beef is raised and that it is local.
We got the thickest cut of these steaks. They aren't Texas size, but just the right size. Marinated them, seasoned them and put them on the barbie. They came out great; the right consistency (not mushy 'melt.in.you.mouth') well textured, flavorful (tasted like beef, not just marinade and seasoning) and were devoured, because they were delicious. Full stop.
Got my order a couple weeks ago and I'm so happy with it. So far I've had steaks and ground beef. Everything tastes great and cooks really well. I'm looking forward to next month. Great quality as always.
Not much more to add beyond 'awesome beef'... It tastes absolutely great. one thing i can say is that when i cook a pound of this down, the amount of render that i pour off is extremely reduced, compared to the usual beef one might find at the usual food sources. That invariably has more wasted weight, more impurities, more fat generally, and less flavor than this Old Time Farm beef.
I worked in specialty foods for years, and health food (primarily organic wholesale and retail) for decades. I kid you not; this meat is the bar. I haven't ever had better. Thank you Shelly
My husband is the meat fan in our family, BUT, this boneless chuck roast is turning me into a meat eater, too. I used big chunks of the roast in instant pot stew this week, and it was delicious. Very flavorful, and tender. Very little waste.
Old Time Farm roasts are always great. I made this on a Friday with some simple roast veg and then used the rest a couple days later to make beef stroganoff. Delicious.
We bought two 4lb roasts for Christmas and added on a homemade dry rub. We added some carrots and potatoes and put it in the oven and cooked it long and slow, The roast fell off the bone. It was amazing!!! Everyone loved it.
These are beautiful cuts of meat. Tender and very flavorful, they grilled up perfectly!
I made pot roast in my Instant Pot pressure cooker with this chuck roast. It was delicious!!
This is the only ground beef we eat. It cooks up lean, with wonderful natural flavor. By far, the best ground beef you can buy! Thank you, Old Time Farm, for offering a healthier alternative to store bought meat.
The sliced sirloin steak from Old Time Farm is the best! Top quality beef, that is so convenient for cheesesteak sandwiches.
Delicious, will keep buying through the winter. Fiancé said it was the most delicious thing I’ve cooked, but I used the same recipe, so it’s the meat! So grateful to have found Old Time Farm!
We always buy our ground beef from Shel. We love the flavor it has which boosts the taste of every dish we make with it. Also, we prefer supporting a local grower who provides beef with flavor!
Meet Shel
I've been raising American Milking Devon cattle on pasture here in Mercer County since 2010.
This is the beef I raise for my own family. And I only share it with people who value integrity - doing the right thing even when no one's looking, showing up with a positive mindset, and believing we're stronger when we care about the environment, our community, and each other.
This isn't a big operation. It's small-batch, intentional, home-grown, and personal.
I answer the emails and share my food and time with you because you deserve it.
Why Old Time Farm?
- 100% grass-fed - raised from birth to harvest on pasture at Old Time Farm
- No hormones, no antibiotics, no fillers - no funny stuff, just home-grown beef
- PA Preferred certified - yep, small farms can be certified too!
- Woman-owned farm - over 15 years raising cattle, lifetime of raising my own food
- Raised in harmony with the land - intentional consideration for the land and native species of plants, animals, and insects every step of the way
There aren't many spots. When they're full, they're full.
