Instant Pot Easy Peel Hard Boiled Eggs

Instant Pot Easy Peel Hard Boiled Eggs

How do I make easy peel hard boiled eggs?  Cook them in an Instant Pot!

Hard boiled eggs

Hard-boiled and pickled eggs are the perfect nutritious quick snack food, salad addition, appetizer or sandwich filler but the time and effort it took to peel them was too much for busy spring life on the farm.

I tried every method and was about to give up the idea eating hard boiled and pickled eggs until the Instant Pot came into my life.  It was M-A-G-I-C!  Even super fresh & turkey eggs were popping right out of their shells.

No wait for pressure release

For the life of me, I cannot manage a timed "natural release" for the pressure.  I get distracted (go figure) and go back an hour later when it should have been 5 minutes - I was a dismal failure trying the "5-5-5 method".  No worries with the method I use as you release the pressure when it beeps - SIMPLE.

Cook 6, 12, 24 or 30 eggs at a time

I generally cook 30 eggs at a time in my 8 quart pot, peel them and add salt to the container so they are ready to grab-n-go, but I worked out the times so you can do as few as 6.

Tips & Tricks:

  • use COLD large eggs - right out of the refrigerator
  • add 1 cup of COLD water - don't forget it.  I learned the IP does not pressurize without the water the hard way.
  • place the eggs in ICE WATER bath to stop the cooking as soon as you take them out of your pot. Make sure you swirl them and the water stays cool if you do 24 or 30

Eggs in Stainless Steamer for Instant PotMy BIG SECRET for doing 30 at a time is a stainless steel basket with a silicone covered handle.  Lift the handle, pull them right out & put them in the water lickety-split!

Use the LOW pressure or "steam" setting.  It gives a more delicate texture to the whites when cooked on low pressure.

The more eggs you cook, the less time you set on the IP because it takes a longer time to get up to pressure and cooks that time as well (we ate alot of green yolked eggs til I figured this out).

Finally, the perfect cooked egg has no green around the edge of the yolk and the yolk is just cooked through.  If you have green around the edge it is overcooked so reduce your time next time.

Instant Pot Easy to Peel Hard-Boiled Eggs

  • Large Cold Eggs
  • 1 cup Cold Water
Place steam rack or basket in pot and add eggs
Add 1 cup COLD water.
Close/lock the lid & select low pressure setting (steam setting on mine was defaulted to low) and set for:
  • 12 minutes for 6 eggs
  • 10 minutes for 12 eggs
  • 8 minutes for 24 eggs
  • 6 minutes for 30 eggs
When the time is up and the Instant Pot beeps, immediately release the pressure & press the cancel button.  Prep the ice water bath while the pressure is releasing.
As soon as the pressure pin drops, open the lid and move the eggs to the ice water bath.
Peel the eggs under running tap water over a colander to catch the shells.
